Time for your weekly notable news update!  Below you'll find a slew of sentences meant to provide a brief glimpse of what's been going on over the past week in movieland.  If something leaves you desperate for more info then my advice is to do a little extra research on one or all of the following fantastic sites:  Latino Review, Dark Horizons, Ain't It Cool News, CHUD and/or JoBlo.  Now, read on!

PS - Sorry I missed two straights weeks of this. ACL and Fantastic Fest tried to kill me.

Movie News Rundown

Because of what's assumed to be scheduling issues, Kevin Costner has dropped out of Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained.  He will be replaced by Kurt Russell.

Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity) will direct Everest for Sony.  The movie will be based on George Mallory and his three attempts to climb the mountain in the 1920s.

John Dies At The End looks bizarre.  I like it.  Here's the trailer.

Colin Farrell, Sam Rockwell and Christopher Walken will star in Seven Psychopaths.  The film is said to follow a writer who gets involved with a couple of petty criminals so that he can have material for his latest script.  Martin McDonagh (In Bruges) will direct.

I didn't catch Human Centipede 2 at Fantastic Fest, but I did hear it got mixed reactions.  Here's the full trailer.

Warner Bros. reportedly would like Steven Spielberg to direct Gods And Kings, which is about the life of Moses.

Speaking of Warner Bros., they also picked up a script from Warrior director Gavin O'Connor titled Samurai.

Who needs action?  You do.  Here's the trailer for Contraband.

And in one other bit of Warner Bros news, the studio is reportedly seeking either Christopher Nolan, Michael Bay or Alfonso Cuaron to direct a Twilight Zone movie.

Rooney Mara (The Social Network) is said to be up for a role in the Oldboy remake.

Like Human Centipede 2, I heard that Paranormal Activity 3 received mixed reactions at Fantastic Fest.  Here's the latest trailer.

Lionsgate has bought the rights to make a movie based on the zombie game Dead Island.

Steve Carell has been offered the lead role in Foxcatcher.  The movie would be based on the schizophrenic John du Pont, who murdered someone in the mid-90s.

Kevin Tancharoen, who directed the web series Mortal Kombat: Legacy, has been hired to reboot the franchise on the big screen.

Girl With A Dragon Tattoo finally got a full trailer.  Watch it!

Alexander Skarsgard and Ellen Page will star in the eco-thriller The East.

Patty Jenkins (Monster) is reported to be in the running to direct Thor 2.

1911 Revolution could be good.  Check out the teaser.

Eric Bana may star in the heist flick Brilliant.  It's said to follow a small time crook who teams up with some more experienced thieves to steal diamonds.

Is it just me, or does J. Edgar look woefully boring?  Here's the trailer.

Jessica Chastain has landed one of the lead female roles in Horizon.  Directed by Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy), the film stars Tom Cruise as one of the last men on a toxic Earth.

We Bought A Zoo looks sappy, but I'll probably watch it.  Here's the trailer.
