Today's Quick Mention: Get out and see
something this weekend! Tonight: the Sounds at
La Zona Rosa, Sondre Lerche at the Parish, and Agent
Ribbons at Skinny's Ballroom. Tomorrow: the
Sour Notes and La Snacks at 29th Street Ballroom,
Equals at Beauty Bar, and Eleanor Friedberger at
Cactus Cafe. Last but not least, AA Bondy and Gold
Leaves are at the Parish on Sunday.
And now, some music. Enjoy.
:White
Denim - No Real Reason:
While I really like this track, I have to admit the posting
of it largely stems from how excited I was to see that White
Denim will be opening for Wilco on a nice string of dates in
early 2012. Way to go, fellas. You can find this
well crafted number on the Takes Place In Your Work Space
EP, which is available at this very moment.
:The
Bandana Splits - Everyday Is Like Sunday (Morrissey Cover):
Morrissey is playing the Bass Concert Hall on Tuesday, and
that means this cover is relevant! Boom. Total
professional right here, friends. Anyhow, I love the
Bandana Splits, and this charming effort is just another
reason why. Grab this track while you can, as it does
not have an official release to call home.
:Girls
- Lawrence:
Girls have never been a band I've found to be all that
impressive, but I really like their new album, I thought
they had a very nice set during last weekend's Fun Fun Fun
Fest, and now there's this beautiful track. Consider
me hooked. This random single is dedicated to the
frontman of Felt, and you'll be able to own it on December 6
via Turnstile/True Panther Sounds.
:Porcelain
Raft - Put Me To Sleep:
I've been listening to this song a lot the last couple of
days. I really like the well layered arrangement, and
it's just catchy enough to keep popping up in my head long
after I've moved on to something else. Secretly
Canadian will release Maruo Remiddi's debut, Strange
Weekend, on January 24. I'm eager to check it out.
:Speech
Debelle - Studio Backpack Rap:
The last time Speech Debelle did anything she won a Mercury
Music Prize. That's impressive. Who knows how
her follow-up effort will be received, but I can at least
say that I think she's off to a pretty good start with this
upbeat number. The anticipated Freedom Of Speech
is due out in early February via Big Dada Recordings.
