Today's Quick Mention: If you do
anything tonight it should consist of rolling down
to the
Mohawk
for the Midgetmen's 9th Anniversary and CD Release
Show. La Snacks are opening, the Sour Notes
are headlining the inside stage, and I'll be there
passing out high fives. Why would you ever
consider missing it? Tix are a measly $8.
Doors are at 8pm. See you there.
Music! Enjoy.
:Ty
Segall - You Make The Sun Fry:
I didn't really have Ty's upcoming album on my list of
anticipated releases, but I think that's officially changed
after hearing this indie rock gem. I really love that
it's as noisy as can be, and yet it still makes me want to
find a spot to kick back and soak up some sunshine.
Goodbye Bread, which is his debut full length for Drag
City, is expected everywhere on June 21.
:Menomena
- The Ladder:
Menomena is all set to reissue its debut album I Am The
Fun Blame Monster! on May 24 via FILMguerrero, and in
celebration of it they've unleashed this unreleased bonus
track. To be honest, there really isn't a whole lot to
the song, but its got a handful of nifty parts and a ton of
"repeat listen potential" for those of you that own a good
pair of headphones.
:Minus
The Bear - Broken China:
Minus The Bear couldn't possibly be more all over the place
these days. They either deliver a super slick pop song
that's radio-ready to the core, or they randomly churn out a
heavier tune like this epic b-side. Oh well.
It's weird, but until I actually end up with a reason to not
like them, I suppose I can just try to ignore their
wishy-washy ways. A free EP titled Hold Me Down
was just
released. Get it.
:Paleo
- Holly Would:
While rummaging through my inbox yesterday I came across
Paleo (aka David Stackany). I wasn't previously aware
of his existence, but it didn't take more than a single
listen of this stomp-worthy number for me to realize that
I'll forever being paying attention whenever I see his name
somewhere. Fruit Or The Spirit is due June 21
via Partisan Records. I 'd like it now.
:The
Midgetmen - King Kong:
These guys are fairly crazy, so it doesn't surprise me that
this starts out in a very slick and accessible fashion
before slyly shifting into something that will make each of
you incessantly air-guitar and toss up rock fists. I
dig it. As I mentioned up above, the Midgetmen are
having a show at the Mohawk tonight to celebrate their
existence and the release of Loud Enough. Go!
