Today's Quick Mention:  Tonight I recommend that you head down to the Parish and see my friends Sorne and the Long Tangles.  Both acts have really early sets since they're opening the show, so be sure to not dwell or you'll miss out on some good stuff.  Tix are $5.

Since I wouldn't call myself a fan (or even a slight admirer, to be honest), Mayer Hawthorne is not a name normally seen around these parts.  Still, at some point everyone gets some love, and his is coming via a new EP that contains a very easy to dig cover of Mr. Blue Sky.  Hear it below.  Impressions is free and can be downloaded in its entirety here.  Enjoy.

:Mayer Hawthorne - Mr Blue Sky (Electric Light Orchestra Cover):  Aside from sounding like an updated take on the song, this is not wildly different than the original, which is probably why it's an easy cover to appreciate. So what really makes it worth remembering?  The fact that it was "recorded live, in one take, in a tiny makeshift tent, at a festival in Dour, Belgium."  That's just impressive.
