Today's Quick Mention: If you don't
have a way into the totally sold-out Arcade Fire and
Explosions In The Sky show tonight then I highly
recommend hitting up Dark Dark Dark and Robert Ellis
at the Mohawk or the Low Anthem at the Central
Presbyterian Church.
It's really weird to me that the Black Lips brought
in Mark Ronson to produce their new record. I
only ever associate that guy with borderline
over-produced pop music for the masses, and not
noisy garage rock. But, there his name is in
the liner notes, and the first single is pretty
good. So what do I know? Arabia
Mountain is due June 7 via Vice. Enjoy.

Lips - Modern Art:
I can't say for sure if whether or not a garage pop version
of the Black Lips is what most have been waiting for, but I
do know that I dig this song. It's catchy and, in my
opinion, carries just enough of an edge to warrant repeat
listens. Now it's just a matter of seeing if the new
LP is entirely like this or if there's more traditional
fuzzed-out stuff from the band.
