Today's Quick Mention: There are no
shows in town tonight that I feel the need to plug,
so if you really want to get out and do something
then I highly recommend heading to the Alamo Ritz
for a screening of I Saw The Devil.
I've heard it's fantastic.
I think that with the following five songs I'll
pretty much be all the way caught up with anything
major that hit the web over the last few weeks.
So, you can expect Dan's column tomorrow to fully
commit us back to our regularly scheduled
programming.
Enjoy.
:MSTRKRFT
- Beards Again:
I've always thought of MSTRKRFT as a straight up dance band,
but this honestly sounds like Ratatat trying really hard to
make you gyrate right out of your pants. Definitely
give it a good listen if you've ever appreciated snazzy
guitar work and big beats. The band is planning to
release a third album at some point later this year on Dim
Mak.
:TV
On The Radio - Caffeinated Consciousness:
When did TV On The Radio go 90s alt rock? For so long
they were these purveyors of such weird and interesting
stuff, and now they seem to have ditched that in favor of
yesterday's sounds. On the bright side, I do like this
track, and I'm holding out some hope that their new full
length will at least be solid. Nine Types Of Light
is due April 12 via Interscope.
:Maritime
- Paraphernalia:
Hard to believe that this band, which is lead by former
Promise Ring members Davey von Bohlen and Dan Didler, is
getting ready to put out their fourth full length.
Where did all the time go? And at what point will
these guys run out of indie pop gas and stop sounding so
damn good? Maybe (and hopefully) never.
Dangerbird Records will release Human Hearts on April
5.
:The
National - Think You Can Wait:
I saw Win Win a couple of weeks back, and I can
confidently say that I don't remember this track anywhere in
the movie. Way to come through for me, Paul Giamatti.
In any case, this is a great song, and I've repeatedly found
myself transfixed on how mesmerizing it is. The
soundtrack for Win Win is currently available on Mom
And Pop Records.
:Yacht
- Dystopia:
It took me a few playthroughs to realize this, but the only
real way to listen to Dystopia is at the sort of
volume level that causes pictures to vibrate off the walls.
Have fun. Just be sure not to do it at an hour in
which you run the possibility of causing all your neighbors
to erupt into crazed dancing. Yacht will have a new
album at some point later this year on DFA.
