Today's Quick Mention: Just so you
know, because of SXSW the schedule around SOTO is
about to get really weird and scattered. For
those of you that are planning on coming to Austin
for the festivities, you'll love the recommendations
and the coverage. The rest of you will
probably hate it. Sorry.
Five songs to at least help start the week off
right.
Enjoy.
:Ponytail
- Easy Peasy:
For a while there it looked as the world was only ever going
to get one album out of this crazy little experimental act,
so it's rather nice to have them suddenly return.
Although, while I dig this single, it's surprisingly tame,
and I'm very curious to see if anything on it is a furious
as what inhabited all of 2008's Ice Cream Spiritual.
Do Whatever You Want All The Time is due April 12 via
We Are Free.
:California
Wives - Tokyo:
This band had a couple of really nice indie pop tunes (that
very much reminded me of the Pomegranates) last year, and
now on the eve of SXSW they've returned with an unreleased
gem to make sure I remember to try and see them live.
Nice work, fellas. I'm not sure what it will be called
or when to expect it, but a full length is apparently being
worked on now.
:Golden
Dogs - As Long As You Like:
Because it wouldn't be a proper five-song post without at
least one overly catchy piece of pop, I present to you the
new single from the veteran act known as Golden Dogs.
It's OK if you find yourself with this on repeat. Dine
Alone will place Coat Of Arms, which is the band's
third full length, on store shelves everywhere April 26.
:Alela
Diane - To Begin:
The last I heard from this singer/songwriter was back in
2009 when she was touring around with Alina Hardin under the
wildly crazy moniker of Alela And Alina. Now, she's
back doing her solo thing and sounding as good as ever.
I can't wait to hear all of her new full length.
Wild Divine is expected to be released on April 5 via
Rough Trade Records.
:Cymbals
Eat Guitars - Gleemer (Guided By Voices Cover):
I really love this cover, but I have to admit that the
quality of this mp3 isn't exactly stellar. Actually,
it kind of sucks. Grab headphones and be prepared to
crank the volume if you really want to hear it.
This was released as a way to celebrate the band signing to
the always fantastic Barsuk, but I like to think a new full
length isn't too far off.
