As you've probably noticed by now, on June 30 we're helping sponsor a show that's happening at Spiderhouse Ballroom. A press page with all the info you could need can be found here, but we also thought it would be fun to highlight each of the acts and offer up some of our own opinions. Enjoy.

Show Spotlight: Monarchs (ballroom stage - 9:30pm)

The centerpiece of Monarchs is the sweet sounding and rhapsodic voice of Celeste Griffin, whose soulful delivery should remind you of acts like Cat Power or the Heartless Bastards.  In fact, I was playing Monarchs on the stereo the other day and it instantly caught my wife’s attention. "Who is that? I really liked that song. Is it someone famous?" That’s the power of Celeste’s voice and her engaging songwriting. She manages to make Monarchs' songs resonate and have an intimacy that many artists aim for but few achieve.

After putting out two EPs the band will release their first full length, The Rise and Fall, on July, 12th 2011. It was produced by Mike McCarthy who has worked with Spoon, Trail of Dead, Heartless Bastards, and Patty Griffin. Not too shabby, right? I'm guessing they'll play a lot of the new tunes at the June 30th show, so come out and catch a few of them.
