Today's Quick Mention: Starting
tomorrow Dan and I will be throwing out some words
for each of the bands that are playing the little
show
we're helping sponsor on June 30. It'd be
awesome if you made sure to check each of the
entries out!
Sounds and stuff. Enjoy.
:Bleached
- Think Of You:
Until I read that they used to be members of Mika Miko, I
wasn't at all familiar with the sister duo of Jessica and
Jennifer Clavin. Now, they're in my head and not
leaving anytime soon, and I totally blame this infectious
and jangly gem. The band will release the Carter
7" on July 19 via Art Fag, but let's hope an EP or full
length is just around the corner.
:Holiday
Shores - Spells:
Late last week word of a new full length from Holiday Shores
came by way of an mp3, and I got a bit excited. Sure,
it's the only song I've heard off the new album, but it
sounds as though they've taken a solid step towards really
hammering down their breezy pop style. New Masses
For Squaw Peak is due out on September 13 via
twosyllable.
:Future
Islands - Before The Bridge:
It took me a few listens, but I've finally come around on
this song. I just had to accept the fact that it's one
of those pop tracks with sad synths and more lyrical drama
than any normal person should be exposed to. Get ready
to feel the need to dance in a dark corner by yourself.
The Before The Bridge 7" is due July 19 via Thrill
Jockey.
:Grooms
- Prom:
With every passing day July 12 creeps a little closer, and I
get even more excited about the prospect of a new album from
this band. They're just overly great at churning out
moody and interesting indie rock, and I can't wait to hide
away with some headphones and whatever awaits me on the
upcoming LP. Kanine Records will put out Prom.
:Matt
Bauer - Blacklight Horses:
Dana Falconberry, who is one of my favorite local artists,
is currently out touring with this guy, so I figured now
would be as good of a time as any to check him out.
He's good! Which means I now fully approve of her
tour. Or something. Anyhow, Matt and Dana will
be playing the Mohawk on July 29, and The Jessamine
County Book Of The Living is currently available via
Crossbill Records.
