Time for your weekly notable news update!  Below you'll find a slew of sentences meant to provide a brief glimpse of what's been going on over the past week in movieland.  If something leaves you desperate for more info then my advice is to do a little extra research on one or all of the following fantastic sites:  Latino Review, Dark Horizons, Ain't It Cool News, CHUD and/or JoBlo.  Now, read on!

Movie News Rundown

Russell Crowe is said to be close to signing on to play the role of Jor-El in Zack Snyder's Superman reboot.

Simon West (The Mechanic) will direct Expendables 2.

They finally cut out all the parodies and gave The Muppets a trailer.  Looks like it'll be a fun movie.

Ed Harris and Matthew Fox have joined the cast of World War Z.

James Mangold (3:10 To Yuma) has reportedly been hired to direct The Wolverine.  Presumably, this will now stop Hugh Jackman from signing to star in an adaptation of Les Miserables by Tom Hooper (The King's Speech).

The smattering of alternate superhero stories looks to be continuing with Griff The Invisible.  Here's the trailer.

Charlie Day (Horrible Bosses) is in talks to appear in Guillermo Del Toro's Pacific Rim.

Thor Fruedenthal (Diary Of A Wimpy Kid) has been hired to direct Percy Jackson And The Sea Of Monsters.

Luke Evans and Benedict Cumberbatch have joined the cast of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

The international trailer for Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes is pretty cool.

Jason Reitman (Juno) has reportedly been hired to rewrite the script for Burt Wonderstone.  Steve Carell is still set to star in the movie about a magician trying to reclaim his fame from a younger illusionist.

Speaking of Jason Reitman, Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin are set to star in this next directorial effort, Labor Day.  The movie is said to be about a single mom who unwittingly takes in an escaped convict.

You shouldn't see Larry Crowne, and the new trailer is proof of that.

David O. Russell (The Fighter) is said to be interested in directing the Sleeping Beauty-spinoff Maleficent. Angelina Jolie is still set to star.

The end is almost here!  See the latest Harry Potter And The Dealthy Hallows: Part 2 trailer.

Darren Aronofsky is said to be trying to get Christian Bale to star in his movie based on Noah's Ark.

Tom Cruise is reportedly the preferred choice to play the titular role in an adaptation of Lee Child's Jack Reacher novels.  The books follow an ex-cop as he travels the country and beats up bad guys.

Moneyball now has a trailer.  Looks great.

Michael Chabon (Spider-Man 2) has been hired to pen the script for Jon Favreau's Magic Kingdom.

Kevin Connolly (Entourage) recently said he's trying very hard to get a Kimbo Slice biopic made.  Supposedly, the UFC fighter would play himself.

Jamie Foxx is said to be closing in on the titular role in Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained.

Our Idiot Brother doesn't look particularly good, but I'll probably watch it.  Here's the trailer.

Warner Bros. and Universal have decided to remake Tell No One.  The original is brilliant, and you should see it immediately.

The Conan The Barbarian remake continues to look terrible.  Check out the new red band trailer.
