Today's Quick Mention:  The great Explosions In The Sky are playing ACL Live tonight.  You should have plans to be there.  If not, then get on with buying a ticket already.

And then there was music.  Enjoy.

:Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Same Mistake:  I've always thought of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah as a quirky indie band that has the occasional flare of pop rock grandeur, but this is them clearly going full tilt on the shimmering, mainstream-ready side of things.  I like it.  I just need to figure out if I'd be willing to give it a go for an entire album.  Hysterical is due on September 9 via V2.

:Shimmering Stars - I'm Gonna Try:  This act just signed to the super hip Hardly Art roster, so from that you should be able to make an educated guess that their sound can be described as fuzzy retro pop.  Of course, that's correct, and you can now mail me a dollar for making you look way cool in front of your cat.  The Vancouver-based trio will release Violent Hearts on September 13.

:Peter Wolf Crier - Right Away:  There were a couple songs on this band's debut (from last year) that I really liked, but for whatever reason I didn't connect with the rest of Inter-Be.  My guess at this point is that I won't have the same hiccup on their sophomore LP, but if I end up being wrong, at least I'll have this rather stellar track to obsess over.  Garden Of Arms is due out September 6 on Jagjaguwar.

:The Rapture - How Deep Is Your Love:  The Rapture are back, and now they're packing saxophone solos.  Or, at least they are in this first track off their upcoming full length (their first since 2006's Pieces Of The People We Love).  Hope you're ready to dance erotically.  The band has rejoined James Murphy's DFA label, and they will release In The Grace Of Your Love on September 6.

:Best Coast - Gone Again:  Eventually I'm going to just totally burn out on all things Best Coast, but that time is not now!  In fact, I think it's probably pretty far off, as I repeatedly find myself hooked on their effortless ways.  In case you don't know, this track comes from the free singles collection that Adult Swim is planning on posting up all summer.  You should do yourself a favor and keep an eye on their site.
