Today's Quick Mention: Unless you
bought a ticket within the first five minutes of
when they were released, you're not getting into the
Weezer show at Stubb's tonight. So, instead I
think you should head to the theater for a little
comic book action via X-Men: First Class.
Noah and I both thought it was a really good one.
Music is what you probably really need right now. Enjoy.

Heavenly - Pineapple Girl:
This super group (Honus Honus from Man Man, Nick Thorburn
from Islands and Joe Plummer from Modest Mouse) has been
around for a bit, but I really hadn't paid much attention to
them since they didn't seem as though they'd ever actually
put out an album. Oops. On August 16 their debut
Out Of Love will get released through Sub Pop.
Judging by this track, it should a fun listen.

On A Crime Spree - I Don't Want To Call You Baby ... Baby:
From Bubblegum To Sky is one of those gloriously sunshiny
pop acts that you almost sort of have to like. This,
which features members of that group, is still pop, but it's
dark and moody as can be. Way to play the opposite
game with yourselves, you crazy kids. The always
steady Slumberland just put out the band's debut We Love
You So Bad.

- Further:
Because sometimes you just need those borderline anthemic
tracks that make you want to stand on the roof of a building
somewhere and, while hand-in-hand with those closest to you,
sing loudly to the world, I give you this effort. Have
fun. Etch The Line is the name of this LA-based
band's new EP, and it's currently available for you to own
forever.
:Gold
Leaves - The Ornament:
I'm way late to the Gold Leaves party, so I apologize if
you've already been listening to this for a good couple of
weeks (that's approximately eight years in internet time).
As for the song, it's certainly the sort of retro pop that's
dominated everything the last few years, and it's difficult
to not find infectious. Hardly Art will put out The
Ornament on August 16.
:The
National - Exile Vilify:
Recently I played through the game Portal 2 and
noticed that the National had a dreamy little track in it.
To be honest, I prefer the way it plays in the context of
the game, but it's good enough to stand on its own and be
admired by all. I don't think the game's soundtrack is
available to buy, so if you like this mp3 then be sure to
store it away somewhere safe.
