Time for your weekly notable news update!  Below you'll find a slew of sentences meant to provide a brief glimpse of what's been going on over the past week in movieland.  If something leaves you desperate for more info then my advice is to do a little extra research on one or all of the following fantastic sites:  Latino Review, Dark Horizons, Ain't It Cool News, CHUD and/or JoBlo.  Now, read on!

Movie News Rundown

Craig Brewer (Blake Snake Moan) has officially signed on to write and direct a Tarzan trilogy for Warner Bros.

The new trailer for Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes is actually pretty cool.

Paramount has acquired the rights to the The Mighty.  The graphic novel detailed a regular man's mission to stop the world's greatest hero from going through with an evil plan.

The Hunger Games series is reportedly going to be divided into four movies.

There's now a non-bootleg version of the trailer for Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.  Watch it.

Jennifer Hudson has joined the cast of The Three Stooges.  She will play a nun.

Jeremy Renner, Joaquin Phoenix and Marion Cottilard may join the James Gray-directed Low Life.  The film will supposedly follow a Polish immigrant in America who has to turn to prostitution to get by.

Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark looks genuinely creepy.  I dig it.  Here's the trailer.

Craig Mazin (The Hangover: Part 2, Scary Movie 3/4) has reportedly been hired to pen a script for The Hangover: Part 3.

David Fincher's Panic Pictures has optioned the rights to the crime novel Panic Attack.  The book followed a man who shoots and kills a home intruder and then must deal with the media frenzy that follows.

In case you missed it, the Hobbit movies will be titled The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There And Back Again.

I really like the look of 50/50.  Check out the trailer.

Michael Mann is reportedly close to signing on to direct the adaptation of Go Like Hell.  The book told the story of how Henry Ford II reinvented Ford and took on Ferrari in European racing.

The Whistleblower could be a good one.  Here's the trailer.

Idris Elba (Thor) may be close to landing a large role in Guillermo Del Toro's Pacific Rim.

The Descendants looks good, but that's totally not surprising since it has George Clooney.  Check out the trailer.

Amy Adams has joined the cast of Paul Thomas Anderson's untitled movie.

The trailer for The Guard is charming.  Watch it.

Bradley Cooper will official join Ryan Gosling in The Place Beyond The Pines.  The movie will reportedly follow a cop and a motorcycle driver who are lifelong enemies.

Paul Greengrass is said to be deciding between Maersk Alabama and Rush as his next film to direct.  The former would tell the story of Richard Philips, who was captured by Somali pirates in 2009, and the latter would detail the famed rivalry between F1 drivers James Hunt and Niki Lauda.

Take Shelter looks awesome.  Check out the trailer.

Tim Burton, Sam Raimi, Shawn Levy, Chris Weitz and Alfonso Cuaron are all being rumored as possible directors for the next Pirates Of The Caribbean movie.

David O. Russell is no longer directing the adaptation of Uncharted due to what's being reported as creative differences with the studio.

A Little Help.  Generic or fun?  The trailer is sort of both.
