Days are warmer. Breezes feel cooler. It’s summer, and the soundtrack to our lives is set to station the sounds of hazy, lo-fi songs. Filling my summer prescription this season is Porcelain Raft - the singular outfit worn by Mauro Remiddi. Previously of Sunny Day Sets Fire, Remiddi’s current musical take is leagues apart from his former days. Having gone from a quintet to a solo work, the displaced Italian in London self-records all that is Porcelain Raft, which isn’t much at all - Remiddi, alone, with his guitar and his keyboard. While Sunny Day was bright and vibrant, Porcelain Raft is a lot like an aged, hazy memory. With echoing vocals, a rocking-you-to-relaxation tempo, and hushed lyrics, closing your eyes to this music can only conjure up memories full of dust, speckles, cuts and, of course, a lomographic touch.
