Today's Quick Mention:  Anyone started using Spotify yet?  I think it's pretty awesome, and I'm already eager to come up with some ways to tie it into the site.  The first thing I did was make a playlist of pretty much every song I've shared so far in 2011.  It can be found here.  Let me know if you have any other ideas!

Music and words.  Enjoy.

:Boston Spaceships - Christmas Girl:  Considering that this band is made up of GBV-vets Robert Pollard and Chris Slusarenko, and John Moen (Decemberists), I should be well aware of everything they've done.  But I'm not, and I can't even say why or how I missed the boat.  Oh well.  As you should expect, this is a great track.  Let It Beard is due August 2 on Guided By Voices, Inc.

:Letting Up Despite Great Faults - Sophia In Gold:  Admittedly, I wasn't really a big fan of the first song (Teenage Tide) that was sent out to support this act's soon to be released EP.  This second taste, however, is just fantastic and should immediately be placed on everyone's summer playlist.   The Paper Crush EP is due out on August 2 via Old Flame Records.

:Jacuzzi Boys - Cool Vapors:  Just like the song one slot up, this also deserves to be thrown on everyone's summer playlist.  Just know it doesn't belong in the stay still and chill out portion of your tunes, as this has a quick pace and a fuzzy, infectious sound that's bent on getting you up and moving.  The band will release their debut, Glazin', on August 30 via Hardly Art.

:Pepper Rabbit - Murder Room:  I'm beginning to think Pepper Rabbit will never stop impressing.  I'm already a fan of how relentless they are when it comes to recording and touring, but now they've gone off and made me even more excited for their new LP by releasing this wonderfully simplistic pop gem.  Ridiculous!  Red Velvet Snow Ball is due August 9 on Kanine Records, and the band will be playing the Mohawk on October 4.

:Chelan - On The Water:  Over the weekend I found this act's new album, Towers, sitting in my inbox with a little note that mentioned it had been released last month but had yet to receive much love.  That's too bad, as it certainly seems like a solid enough effort worthy of attention.  So, if you like this lush tune, do me favor and mention Chelan to a friend or two.
