I’m going to be frank – even while that bastard of a sun relentlessly sheds streaming waves of heat on us, one faction’s managed to stay cool. Floating on the waves they’ve been making since their latest release in the UK is Metronomy, and the four-piece have their sights set to next turn the tide here in the US with that very same release debuting stateside on July 26. The English Riviera may have been released in the UK in the spring, but there’s no doubt about it - this album had summer written all over it. Summer soundtracks certainly aren’t scarce, but while it’s one thing to lyrically devote to the season, Metronomy’s work supersedes the simplicity of that level and have brought about the aural and visual aspects of a bright summer holiday. Take something like The Bay -  the sound of keys gull and peck at a deep, party bass; vocals hit the high chorus of the girls that lay about bathing in the sun; synths glimmer like sunlight on the water. It’s summer synth pop, and it’s a beautiful thing.
