Today's Quick Mention:  Lots of great shows this weekend.  New Roman Times are at Lambert's tonight, tomorrow you'll find White Denim at Antone's, Cass McCombs at Lambert's, and the Blow at Emo's, and then Centro-matic is playing the Mohawk on Sunday.  See them all.

And now, sounds to help you ignore your responsibilities!  Enjoy.

:Active Child - Hanging On:  I'm not sure I've ever really paid this act much attention, but I'm going to have to start after immediately falling in love with this song and its weird mix of falsettos and ominous electronic sounds.  This was released through Adult Swim's single series, and on August 23 it'll be physically available to own via Active Child's Vagrant debut, You Are All I See.

:Vivian Girls - Take It As It Comes:  Admittedly, I'm mostly posting this because I totally forgot to pick up the Vivian Girl's new album back in late April when Polyvinyl put it out the masses, and this will serve as a rather nice reminder.  Also, I just really like the track.  Share The Joy is the title of their recent full length.  If you have it, clue me on how it is!

:Mates Of State - Maracas:  I love this band.  Yes, the songs are always wonderful pieces of pop (just like this is), but I think I'm mostly blown away by how long they've been consistently great.  There just doesn't seem to be any stopping them, and that's certainly OK by me.  The new full length is called Mountaintops and is due September 13 via Barsuk Records.

:Ganglians - Sleep:  The first single (Jungle) off this band's upcoming album was fantastic enough to instantly make me excited about their upcoming effort.  This one is a lot less jangly and energetic, but it's still packing a big enough sound to hold my overly high level of anticipation for Still Living.  The double LP will be out everywhere on August 23 via Lefse.

:Blitzen Trapper - American Goldwing:  My level of affection for this band has dipped a bit over the years, but I have to admit that I really like this track.  It's fun to sing-a-long with, and I especially appreciate how effortless it is on every front.  Hopefully the new full length will have more of the same.  American Goldwing is due September 13 via Sub Pop.
