Today's Quick Mention: Get crazy this
weekend. Monotonix will be setting things on
fire at the Mohawk tomorrow evening, and then on
Sunday TXRD will kick off their 10th season with the
All Scar Army taking on my wife and the United
Skates Navy. Do both. Or else.
Stuff for your ears!.
Enjoy.
:Charles
Bradley - The World (Is Going Up In Flames):
My love for all things Daptone knows no bounds, so I'm more
than a little excited to have something new to share from
their fantastic stable of artists. Just crank the
volume and let this gem fill the room. I promise that
not much else does it quite like Charles Bradley's crazy
good voice. No Time For Dreaming is available
now. You need it in your life.
:The
ACBs - Boy Like Me:
This is a silly song from a band with an even sillier name,
and I don't care. I'm overly attached to it. Partly
due to the damn thing being so infectious that I can't get
it out of my head, but mostly because it's one of those
guilty pleasure pieces of pop that just forces you to crack
a smile. Stona Rosa is currently ready for you
to buy.
:Lykke
Li - I Follow Rivers (David Sitek Remix):
David Sitek and I seem to be on the same page about LL's new
stuff. Yes, it's good and something that should be
heard, but it could also use some extra umph.
This song is proof. Just so you know, once you listen
to this you may not want to go back to the original.
Wounded Rhymes is out March 2 on LL Recordings.
:Hunx
And His Punx - Lovers Lane:
This is such a ridiculous track. There's parts that
clearly pay homage to the semi-narrated love songs of the
60s, and then there are moments where I'm pretty sure
they're doing what they can to mock that particular style.
Again, it's ridiculous. But also entertaining.
You'll probably dig it. Too Young To Be In Love
is out March 29 on Hardly Art.
:EMA
- The Grey Ship:
Slapping a seven minute track onto the end of a mini-comp on
a Friday is a bit of an odd choice by me, but I think you'll
find this to be something worthy of every second of your
time. Just be sure to grab headphones. Otherwise
you'll miss out on fully experiencing the various shifts in
sound as the track crawls along. This is great stuff.
Past Life Martyred Saints is out later this year on
Souterrain.
