Time for your weekly notable news update!  Below you'll find a slew of sentences meant to provide a brief glimpse of what's been going on over the past week in movieland.  If something leaves you desperate for more info then my advice is to do a little extra research on one or all of the following fantastic sites:  Latino Review, Dark Horizons, Ain't It Cool News, CHUD and/or JoBlo.  Now, read on!

Movie News Rundown

Rumor has it that Viggo Mortensen is being considered for the role of Zod in the Superman reboot.  As for the recently cast Kevin Costner, it has been confirmed that he will be Pa Kent.

There's a teaser out for The Hangover: Part II.  It's a little disappointing since they don't reveal anything that hasn't already shown up in photos.

John Chu (Step Up 3D) has been chosen as the director of GI Joe 2.

Joel McHale and Giovanni Ribisi have joined the cast of Seth McFarlane's Ted.  The movie will follow a guy (played by Mark Wahlberg) who is having issues with his slacker friend, who happens to be a teddy bear.

Bad Teacher looks ridiculous and funny ... and possibly terrible.  See the red band trailer.

Ewan McGregor is said to be close to joining the cast of Bryan Singer's Jack The Giant Killer.

Patrick Wilson and James Marsden are close to signing up for a remake of The Loft.  The original followed a group of friends who begin to suspect one another of murder after a body is found in a loft that they share.

Warner Bros. has hired Jeremiah Friedman and Nick Palmer to write a remake of The Bodyguard.

I don't care if it's any good, I just want to see it.  Check out the new Sucker Punch "music" trailer.

Paul Greengrass will direct Memphis. The movie will be tell the story of MLK's assassination.

Steve Carell will star in Dogs Of Babel, which is about a man who tries to teach his dog to talk so that he can try to find out how his wife died.

Sony is looking at doing a movie called Zombies vs Robots.  It would apparently follow a group of robots trying to protect Earth's last living human from super smart zombies.

Cars 2 has a new TV spot.  Looks OK.  Here it is.

DJ Caruso may be directing an adaptation of Preacher.  The comic book follows a possessed man who sets out to find God, who has abandoned Heaven.

Tony Gilroy is said to be looking at a long list of actors for the lead role in The Bourne Legacy.  Those names are: Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire, Garrett Hedlund, Taylor Kitsch, Kellan Lutz, Josh Hartnett, Paul Dano, Michael Fassbender, Joel Edgerton, Oscar Isaac and Benjamin Walker.

I don't have a wealth of confidence in Paul, but the red band trailer is pretty solid.

Wolfgang Peterson may direct an adaptation of Old Man's War. The novel follows a man in future who has his mind transferred to a genetically enhanced body so that he can be a super soldier.  While fighting he finds that his supposedly dead wife did the same, and he sets out to be with her again.

Not sure the trailer for Desert Flower could be anymore dramatic.  Looks OK though.

Surprisingly, Wrath Of The Titans will be post-converted to 3D.  The first entry in the series was heavily criticized for the same process.

Rutger Hauer has reportedly been cast as Van Helsing in Dario Argento's upcoming Dracula 3D.

Because Hollywood knows you won't want to sit through it, the new trailer for Rio pretty much shows you the entire movie.  Cool!

James Franco has officially signed on to star in Sam Raimi's Oz, The Great And Powerful.

There was a nice little teaser for Transformers: Dark Side Of The Moon during the Daytona 500.  See it here.

Louis Leterrier will follow-up the heist movie Now You See Me with a sci-fi disaster flick called G.  No word yet on exact plot details.

It doesn't show much, but there's a new trailer for Source Code.
