Today's Quick Mention: Anyone else
think that James Murphy made an odd choice by
booking more LCD Soundsystem shows before the
Madison Square Garden date? Sure, it looks
like a nice attempt to spite the scalpers that
snatched up all the tickets, but by picking a
different venue and by still having the MSG show set
as the band's final appearance, tickets will still
get scalped for astronomical amounts. Another
night or two at MSG would have been a better idea,
right?
And now, some music.
Enjoy.
:The
Decemberists - Cuyahoga (REM Cover):
Colin Meloy has repeatedly noted that The King Is Dead
was made as a tribute to REM, so it makes sense that he and
the band would cover something while out supporting the new
album. Expect to like this. Unless, of course,
you and REM don't get along. This song was recorded on
the KCRW show Morning Becomes Eclectic.
:Le
Butcherettes - New York:
Not only has this band toured with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and
the Dead Weather, but they pretty much sound like a healthy
mix of the two. Hopefully, you're ready to embrace
such a thing and then use it to totally rock this Monday
away. Sin Sin Sin, which is LB's debut full
length, is due May 10 via Rodriguez Lopez Productions.
:Moon
Duo - Mazes:
Since I feel as though everything else I've ever heard from
them has sounded more like distorted noise than actual
music, I wouldn't exactly say that I'm a big fan of Moon
Duo. Still, I do really like this track. Let's
hope the rest of their upcoming album is this groovy and
accessible. Sacred Bones Records will releases
Mazes on March 29.
:Hammer
No More The Fingers - Steam:
I really like these guys. They may not be one of those
bands that always seems to have something crazy spectacular
going on, but every year and a half or so they deliver a
super solid set of hook-driven indie rock. Way to be
consistent, fellas. Black Shark will available
everywhere on April 5 via Churchkey Records.
:Anamanaguchi
- Airbrushed:
Before you even considering hitting play, be sure to note
that this is straight up 8-bit inspired Nintendo music, and
you probably won't like it unless you're a huge nerd (like
me) and have a strange attachment to the sounds that
populated those old games. Still reading? Then
crank the volume and go! The band will be here for
SXSW, and then afterwards they'll head out on tour with
Peelander-Z.
