Time for your weekly notable news update!  Below you'll find a slew of sentences meant to provide a brief glimpse of what's been going on over the past week in movieland.  If something leaves you desperate for more info then my advice is to do a little extra research on one or all of the following fantastic sites:  Latino Review, Dark Horizons, Ain't It Cool News, CHUD and/or JoBlo.  Now, read on!

Note:  I didn't put all the Super Bowl commercials in this week's column.  Some of them just really didn't offer much in the way of new footage.

Movie News Rundown

Bruce Willis is all set to star in Die Hard 5.  Naom Murro (Smart People) will direct a script by Skip Woods (The A-Team).

Gerard Butler will star in Curtis Hanson's Mavericks.  The movie is said to based on the life of legendary surfer Jay Moriarity.

Battle: Los Angeles is going to be awesome.  Check out the new trailer.

Florian Gallenberger will reportedly write and direct a movie based on the career of Milli Vanilli.

Charlize Theron has officially agreed to join Ridley Scott's Prometheus.

I'm not lying when I say that I can't wait to see Fast Five.  Here's the latest trailer.

There's a rumor floating around that says Guy Ritchie is looking at directing a Cannonball Run remake with George Clooney in the lead role.

Tom Cruise is supposedly close to signing on to star in the adaptation of the stage musical Rock Of Ages.  Anne Hathaway is also said to be interested in a part.

Atlus Shrugged appears to be a corporate train movie.  Or something.  Here's the trailer.

Super 8 and Transformers: Dark Side Of The Moon had two of the better teasers during the Super Bowl.  The former is here, and the latter is here.

Nicholas Hoult (About A Boy) has been offered the lead role in Bryan Singer's Jack The Giant Killer.  The movie will follow a young farmer who is on a journey to save a princess that's been kidnapped by a group of giants.

Simon West may direct a Red Sonja movie with Amber Heard (Drive Angry 3D) as the star.

Mark Millar's Nemesis has taken a couple of steps towards being adapted for the big screen.  Tony Scott has acquired the rights to produce and direct it, and Michael Carnahan (Lions For Lambs) has been hired to pen a script.

Rumor has it that Marvel has already begun work on a sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger.  By The way, here's the teaser for that film.

Ryan Gosling is reportedly close to agreeing to star in the Logan's Run remake that Nicholas Winding Refn (Drive) is currently set to direct.

F. Gary Gray (The Italian Job), John Chu (Step Up 3D) and Jaume Collett-Sera (Orphan) are said to all be in the running to direct the GI Joe sequel.

Submarine looks adequately indie.  Could be good.  Here's the trailer.

Shane Black is rumored to be Marvel's preferred choice to write and direct Iron Man 3.

Christian Bale has agreed to star in Concrete Island.  Directed by Brad Anderson (The Machinist), the movie will follow a guy who is marooned on a highway interchange.

Not sure what to think about the new trailer for Cowboys And Aliens.  Your thoughts?

Famke Janssen, Gemma Arterton and Jeremy Renner will star in Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunter.  The movie will apparently tell the tale of two bounty hunters who are in search of the witches who kidnapped them as children.

Rosamund Pike has landed the role of Andromeda in Wrath Of The Titans.

The Music Never Stopped looks pretty great.  Check out the trailer.

Sylvester Stallone has agreed to star in Headshot, which is about two people investigating murders that could be connected to a much larger plot.

Arthur will either work or just be terrible.  Can't tell by the first trailer.

Stephen Sommers will direct Odd Thomas, which will star Antone Yelchin and will feature a story based on a cook who can speak with the dead.

Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother) has been cast as SHIELD agent Maria Hill in The Avengers.

Christoper Nolan has reportedly expressed interest in following up The Dark Knight Rises with his long gestating Howard Hughes biopic.  Unlike The Aviator, his film would deal with the later years in Hughes' life.

I think the first teaser for X-Men: First Class says we have a winner on our hands.  But what do I know.

Bradley Cooper and Jeremy Irons will star in The Words.  The film is said to follow a writer who gets caught plagiarizing and must deal with the consequences.

The internet is bad!  Or, at least it is in the Trust trailer.

Gareth Edwards recently came out and said that Vertigo may be looking to do a Monsters sequel without him.

Check out the trailer for Hoodwinked Too.  I didn't even realize they were making a sequel.  I still need to see the first one!
