Today's Quick Mention: The weather is
supposed to get a little warmer this weekend, so if
you want to get out before the Super Bowl takes over
your life then I highly recommend catching Braids,
Baths and Star Slinger at the Mohawk tomorrow night.
Tix are only $8!
Five tracks to jam into your ears.
Enjoy.
:The
Kills - Satellite:
I've definitely grown attached to the idea of Alison
Mosshart as mainly one half of The Dead Weather, but this
first single, which slinks along like it has no goal other
than to get you out of your seat and dancing in a way that
only a night of drinking would ever allow, has me excited
about her return to The Kills. Blood Pressures
is due April 5 via Domino.
:Atmosphere
- Minnesota Nice:
Aside from wondering how much fun Atmosphere, Prof, Gene
Poole and Felipe Cuauhtli had cutting this, the main thing
on the brain in regards to it has been whether or not anyone
has ever done more to promote a five-date tour. FIVE
dates! That's it, and there was a "posse cut" to go
along with it!? I apparently need more spare time.
:Toro
Y Moi - New Beat:
Have I mentioned how excited I am for the new album from
Toro Y Moi? I think I've only sort of semi-hinted at
such a thing, but now that I have this second piece of funky
joy from the LP, it's probably a good idea to make sure you
know that I can't wait to get my hands on it.
Underneath The Pines will be out via Carpark on the
soon-to-be-here date of February 22.
:The
Seedy Seeds - Verb Noun:
While I was excited to see the return of The Seedy Seeds
(their last LP was in 2009), I didn't actually crack a smile
until I listened to this track and verified that they're
still making simplistic indie pop that's got more layers
than you could possibly imagine. Way to still be
shoving everything in there, you crazy kids.
Verb Noun is currently available at the band's merch
booth. Get out and see them!
:Fleet
Foxes - Helplessness Blues:
I still don't really feel any need to love/adore/obsess over
this band as much as the rest of the world does, but
throughout the week I have found myself humming this
surprisingly infectious tune. Also, every bit of this
is so well crafted that it's hard to not at least dig it a
little bit. Helplessness Blues is due May 3 on
Sub Pop.
