Today's Quick Mention: No need to do
any show-going this weekend. Yes,
Showlist Austin
says Yellow Fever, Zest Of Yore, Handsome Furs,
Wiretree and the Go-Gos are all playing, but you
need to focus on some banked track roller derby.
Tomorrow my wife's undefeated Rhinestone Cowgirls
take on the undefeated Cherry Bombs. Winner
goes straight to the championship. You don't
want to miss
this.
Let's end this silly week! Enjoy.

- Gotta Go:
I've yet to fully climb onto the Oberhofer bandwagon, but I
think this gloriously catchy song is good enough to make me
seriously consider doing such a thing. Before I decide
though, I need to sing-a-long with this until I'm tired of
it. The Gotta Go single is due out October 4
via White Iris, but the band just signed to Glassnote and
are currently working on a debut full length.

- Trying To Reach You:
Fever Dreams was the first track released off this
act's upcoming album, and it didn't do much for me.
This, however, won't leave my head. I love how it
skips along in such an effortless fashion, and there's quite
a few little subtle moments in the arrangement that are just
fantastic. Dracula is due out on September 20
via Dead Oceans.
:Reading
Rainbow - Dead End:
Quick, fuzz-filled pieces of retro pop are what this duo do
best, and that's exactly what this track is. You're
going to like it. Unless, of course, you're one of the
few that happen to not approve of anything that can be
described as jangly. Reading Rainbow and Super Wild
Horses will release a split 7" next month via the HoZac
Hookup Klub single series.
:A
Classic Education - Baby, It's Fine:
Somewhere along the way I totally got my info on this band
all mixed up. I thought they had already put out a
debut full length. But they haven't. I also
didn't recall they were from Italy, or that they were on the
Lefse roster. What the hell happened? Anyhow,
this is a slick listen, and I'm anxious to see what else is
on Call It Blazing. It's out October 25.
:Atlas
Sound - Terra Incognita:
I think I'm one of the few that prefers Bradford Cox's work
as Atlas Sound over what he does with Deerhunter. It's
just got a more relaxed feel, which is once again on display
in this six minute long effort. Grab headphones.
The new album is titled Parallax, and the always
steady 4AD will release it on the rather far away date of
November 8.
