Today's Quick Mention:  Over the weekend I made a quick mix of cover songs over at 8 Tracks.  Do me a favor and give it a listen.  Also, while you're at it, you should just go ahead and sign up for an account.  This way you'll then be able to make your own mixes.  Send me a link if you conjure up anything awesome.

Music and words.  Enjoy.

:Blitzen Trapper - Love The Way You Walk Away:  I was hoping the second single off this band's upcoming album was going to be a bit more upbeat, but it's also focused on the twangy, quieter side of things.  Oh well.  It's a good song, so instead of complaining I'll just hold out hope that the overly fun tracks are tucked away somewhere on the LP.  American Goldwing is due September 13 via Sub Pop.

:PAPA - I Am The Lion King:  Darren Weiss, who is the drummer for Girls, is the main brain behind this new project that I already can't get enough of.  If you're looking for the one track in today's post that's just gloriously pop enough to make your Monday worthwhile, this is it.  The A Good Woman Is Hard To Find EP is due out October 4 via Hit City USA/Psychedelic Judaism.

:Boy + Kite - Think In Stereo:  Until I actually paid attention to the PR email that was sent over, I don't believe I knew that this band was local.  Shame on me.  On the bright side, I will now champion them and tell everyone that this song (and the album it comes from) are deserving of attention.  Go Fly is out now, and you'll be able to see them play the Dia De Las Toadies Music Festival this weekend.

:Vadoinmessico - Marzia:
I don't have a clue how to pronounce "Vadoinmessico" and I don't really get what the press release I have is trying to say, but I know that I like this track.  It's just got a very sweet sound that's hard to not appreciate.  From what I can tell this act just put out a single titled Pepita Queen Of The Animals, and this is the b-sdie off of it.

:Mr. Lewis And The Funeral 5 - Alcohol (The Kinks Cover):  Because I want to encourage you to allow your Monday to devolve into a drunken mess, here's this cover from the one band in Austin that I really just need to sit around and drink all night with.  You're going to like it.  The great folks over at Chicken Ranch Records put out Delirium Tremendous about a month ago.
