Today's Quick Mention: There's quite a
few great shows with local acts lined up for this
weekend. Tonight you'll find the Calm Blue Sea
and My Education at Emo's and One Hundred Flowers at
Frank. Tomorrow night features the Midgetmen
and La Snacks at Skinny's Ballroom, Transmography at
Hole In The Wall, and the Moonlight Towers at Emo's.

And Kim - I'm A Goner (Featuring Soulja Boy And Andrew WK):
I'm fairly certain this track has an existence that makes
zero sense, but here it is and I like it. Why?
Because it's so over the top and ridiculous that someone
needs to champion it, and I'm okay with being that person.
On a related note, there's a 74% chance I'll be done with
this song forever in about a week and a half. This is
part of a
Converse single series.

- Isomer:
Because they put out a song earlier this summer, I thought I
had already missed the arrival of this act's new full
length. But I haven't! In fact, Pleiades
won't be out until September 20. As for this number,
it's not as anthemic as the previously released Further,
but it's got a nice, well crafted electro-pop sound that
lightly reminds me of Azure Ray.
:Future
Islands - Balance:
The first single off of FI's new album was called Before
The Bridge and it was not something that I had an
instant appreciation for. This, however, only took a
single listen. I'd like to think that's because it's
not as dramatic as the aforementioned track, but it may
actually be because I've just fully bought into their sound.
On The Water is due October 11 via Thrill Jockey.

- I'll Drown:
If you're a big fan of Seabear and Sin Fang (Bous) then you
may already recognize the name of this artist, as she sings
and plays keyboards in both of those acts. In regards
to this track, it's really good (and very headphone-worthy,
by the way), and I can't wait to check out the rest of her
debut full length. Morr Music will release We Sink
on October 4.
:Cass
McCombs - The Same Thing:
Cass' Wit's End, which was released earlier this
year, is one of those albums that you have to be in a
particular mood to listen to, so I have to admit I'm kind of
happy that his second full length in 2011 is being described
a bit more upbeat and accessible. It'll help him get
more attention, and he certainly deserves it. Humor
Risk is due on November 8 via Domino.
