Today's Quick Mention: Get out tonight!
If you missed Yellow Fever yesterday, you can catch
them at Club 1808 with Daniel Francis Doyle.
Or, if that's not your thing, the Dum Dum Girls are
doing what's being described as a guitar duo set at
the Mohawk. Should be good.
And now, the weekend. Enjoy.

- O Holy Break Of Day:
Now that I've heard another effortless pop number from it,
I'm certain that the upcoming solo album from Van
Pierszalowski (formerly of Port O'Brien) is going to be a
good one. The LP is titled Out In The Light and
is due out September 20 via TBD Records. Before it
drops, you should consider catching the band at the Mohawk
on August 30 with Mister Heavenly.
:Mr
Gnome - Bit Of Tongue:
I only vaguely remember the last time I mentioned this
Cleveland-based duo, but it's still nice to see them back.
They've got a cool sound, as you'll see in this
ever-shifting pop gem., and they do neat things like record
albums in Josh Homme's Pink Duck Studios. Madness
In Miniature is due out everywhere October 25 via El
Mark Records.

Wolf Crier - Settling It Off:
Right Away, the first single off of PWC's upcoming
LP, was impressive enough on its own to get me interested in
Garden Of Arms, but this track is better, and now I'm
rather excited to check out their sophomore effort.
It's due September 6 through the always steady Jagjaguwar,
and the band will be playing Lambert's on October 7.
:Lana
Del Rey - Video Games:
I like this song. Or at least I think I do.
Actually, I'm not sure. Lana's voice is certainly
impeccable, but the lyrics almost come off as a weird joke.
It's such a weird mix, and yet over the last week or two
I've willingly listened to it 20 times or more. Guess
we'll see where it ends up ranking at the end of the year.
This track is a self released single. No word yet on a
full length.
:Yellow
Ostrich - Blue (Da Ba Dee) (Eiffel 65 Cover):
Despite liking pretty much every terrible song that was
available when I was a kid, I do specifically remember
loathing this "hit" from Eiffel 65. As for this
version, it works, but I'm in love with Yellow Ostrich's
sound, so my opinion is definitely slanted. The
re-issue of The Mistress is out August 16 via Barsuk.
You need it.
