Believe it or
not, Side One Track One turns five today. Every single
year that 8/9 rolls around I say I'm going to throw a big
party, launch a new design, or just stroll through town with
both of my middle fingers high in the sky, but none of that
ever happens. Why? That's a really good
question. I know that with the actual site my brain
wants to say I've long been hesitant to make any changes
because nothing is broken, but deep down I know it's really
because I'm too attached to the simplicity that I put
together five years ago. I mean, look around, this
thing wouldn't have bells and whistles even if I added an
actual picture of bells and whistles. It's just words,
a few images and some downloadable tracks. Your
grandmother could figure it out, and you know that's sort of
way cool, especially if you truly love your nana. And
what about throwing an anniversary show or staging a walk
fueled only by a need to wield duel middle fingers?
It's just not my style. I kind of prefer to sit back
and watch people fight for the spotlight while I point and
laugh and steal all the candy out of their shoulder bag.
But not anymore!
It's time to give the SOTO brand a run for its money.
So from here out the plan is to be more involved around the
great city of Austin, and to add to that we'll be rolling
out an overhaul before 2011 wraps. The content won't
change all that much (there will actually be more, as I'm
looking to add a few writers), but the site itself will be a
much easier beast to command. You're going to like it.
Probably. If not, then know that it was all Brad and
Dan's idea. I never wanted to change a damn thing.
Thanks for reading.
PS - Below you'll find a mix based on stuff from 2011 that's
refused to leave my head. And because why not, I'm
going quiet on this one, so there's only a tracklist and a
zip file with nearly 80 minutes of music. The mix is
meant to call a CD home, so burn it after downloading!
This way you can check it out in the car while driving
around town. Enjoy.
