Today's Quick Mention:  Last night's Joanna Newsom show was great (as it always is), but I have to admit I'm more excited to see her do an ACL taping tonight.  That new venue is spectacular, and I can only imagine she'll sound magical in there.

Five songs to help you forget it's already August.  Enjoy.

:I Break Horses - Winter Beats:  If you pick just one track from today's post to pour over with some headphones, make sure to go with this one.  It's just got such a neat sounding arrangement that swirls around while constantly building up, and Maria Linden's vocals are so very easy on the ears.  Here's hoping the full length has more of the same.  On August 23 you'll be able to pick up Hearts via I Kill Love/Bella Union.

:The Drums - Money:  This song makes me laugh.  Now, I can't say if it's actually supposed to do that or not, but it does, and I honestly think that's part of the reason I like it.  Those of you who have already been charmed by the Drums' slick ways will find plenty to like here.  And if you haven't?  Then this won't change your mind.  Portamento is due out September 13 via Frenchkiss.

:Caveman - Old Friend:  I stumbled across this track about a month or so ago, but I just realized over the weekend that I totally forgot to actually share it.  Shame on me.  Anyhow, the track is a really nice piece of pop that should quickly find its way into your good graces.  CoCo Beware is the name of the band's new album, and they'll release it themselves on September 13.

:Loney Dear - My Heart:
Loney Dear have always struck me as the kind of act that's at their best when they keep things simple and avoid any sort of clutter.  With that being said, they seem to have done some growing since I last heard them, and this well layered, patiently paced gem has me looking at them with a different opinion.  Hall Music is due October 4 via Polyvinyl.

:Plum - Malibu:  Over the weekend I found this over at You Ain't No Picasso and instantly took a liking to it.  Don't expect to get anything you haven't heard before, but it's got some nice songwriting and the kind of sound that will make you want to go back and revisit some old Cat Power albums.  Anyone know if the band is close to putting out something official?
