Today's Quick Mention: As you probably
noticed, I took a nice little break for the
"holiday" this weekend. Hope you didn't miss
me too much. If you did, then I advise that
you come out tonight and join me for Okkervil River
and Dana Falconberry at Scott Inn. I'll be
passing out hugs.
Your Monday jams.
Enjoy.
:The
Clutters - Under Suspicion:
2007 was the last time I heard anything from this raucous
act, so I have to admit that somewhere along they way I
assumed they had just decided to call it quits. But
they haven't. They're still kicking and sounding as
though they're having more fun than you ever will.
Local label Chicken Ranch Records will release Breaking
Bones on May 10.
:Seapony
- Blue Star:
The press release I received for this tried really hard to
convince me to like the track because it's simple.
Yeah, there isn't a whole lot going on in it, but I think
the major selling point from anything Seapony-related is how
endearing it all is. You just want to listen.
The always interesting Hardly Art will release Go With Me
on the very last day of May.
:Buried
Beds - Ivory Tower:
Because sometimes I get more music than I know what to do
with, this very charming number has been buried in the
bottom of my inbox for a good five or six weeks. Not
good. On the bright side, here it is now in all of its
retro pop glory. You just need to show it some love.
Tremble The Sails is currently available in exchange
for some sweet cash.
:Silver
Swans - Secrets (Number Stations Mix):
I've just started paying some attention to Silver Swans, and
it's all because of this track that's been remixed by
Christopher Moll of the fantastic Postmarks.
Apparently, he's been loving some Broadcast and DJ Shadow
stuff lately, so he applied those influences to what was a
simple and modestly upbeat tune. I think it worked out
great. Silver Swans have an EP titled Secrets
that's out now.
:The
Henry Clay People - California Wildfire:
I really dig this band. Sure, they're on the verge of
being nothing more than a poor man's Hold Steady, but you
just have to love how they manage to pack every song with
infectious hooks and enough anthemic lyrics to rally every
angst-filled person in North America. The This Is A
Desert EP is due out in May on TBD.
