Remember this set of Liverpudlians? Liverpooligans? City-affiliation aside, the trio with a marsupilian name evoking a Saturday morning cartoon are poised to make their return and ping our musical radars once again. With their last album dating four years back, the Wombats have definitely been on a rather long hiatus, and there’s certainly been a change in the meantime. Worry not, though. Still remaining are the pop-punk, hormone-driven angsty rock aspects that they came onto the scene with their pockets full of. Nowadays though, they’re just a little less keen to shove all of that in our faces. You don’t get restrain here though, it’s definitely the maturing progression of sound you would typically expect in a sophomore album. This Modern Glitch seems to run the gamut and takes you through the group’s widened musical aptitude with dark, energy-driven danceable hits and paced, theatrical anthems. It’s dark pop - pitfalls and perils with a smirk rather than a grimace. Mark your calendars - This Modern Glitch is set for release April 26.
