Today's Quick Mention:  Just want to throw out a very strong recommendation to see Hanna.  It's easily one of the better films that I've seen this year!  GO.

Tunes and words.  Enjoy.

:Chad VanGaalen - Sara:  Chad has been putting out great music for years, so I wasn't the least bit surprised when this turned out to be a song I had to share.  However, I was caught off-guard by how simplistic it is.  There's usually an extra layer or two of something thrown in for fun, but this is just sparse (in a good way, of course).  The rather oddly titled Diaper Island is due out May 15 via Sub Pop.

:Woods - Pushing Onlys:  If there's one song in today's EP that may not get immediate love from everyone, it's this lo-fi, falsetto-heavy effort.  So, to hopefully allow yourself the chance to see that it's actually a rather charming number, I advise that you do your best to give it a few listens.  You'll be able to pick up Sun And Shade on June 14 via the band's own Woodsist label.

:Swearing At Motorists - Feeling Transparent:  At only a minute and half, this is obviously one brief moment of indie rock.  Fortunately, "she doesn't even know I exist" is the kind of lyric that shouldn't take anyone too long to understand.  The band just put out a compilation of singles titled Postcards From A Drinking Town.  It's available on Secretly Canadian, and you need it.

:The Appleseed Cast - Middle States:  Post-rock can be fairly hit or miss these days, so it's definitely a treat to have one of the genre's best continue to deliver the goods.  Definitely throw on a nice pair of headphones for this!  The band, which has now been together for 14 years, will release the Middle States EP everywhere on June 7 via Graveface Records.

:Ezra Koenig - Papa Hobo (Paul Simon Cover):  I know most of the world is only paying attention to this track because of Ezra's ties to Vampire Weekend, but I think it warrants some love for just being a very charming and well done cover.  Or does that make me crazy?  You can be honest.  If you'd like a hard copy of this you'll need to pick up the Ceremony soundtrack.
