Today's Quick Mention: Lots of great
shows this weekend. If Saturday is your day
you can go with Pains Of Being Pure At Heart at
Emo's or Warpaint at La Zona Rosa. As for
Sunday, it also has two choices in the form of the
Long Tangles and Blue Kabuki at Highball or Maserati
and My Education at the Mohawk. Have fun.
Tunes to help start your weekend. Enjoy.
:Beastie
Boys - Make Some Noise:
It seems as though the reaction to this has been a bit
mixed, but I think it's a pretty fun little track that makes
the impending arrival of summer seem all the more enticing.
If you don't expect to call it a Beastie classic, I think
you'll find yourself pleased with Make Some Noise.
May 3 is when you can expect to be able to purchase Hot
Sauce Committee: Part 2.
:The
Sea And Cake - Up On The North Shore:
Why don't I know more music from this band? This is a
rather nice indie pop tune from what will be their ninth
album, so surely there's loads of other great stuff from way
back that I should be very well aware of. Help, and
send me a recommendation or twenty. The Moonlight
Butterfly is due May 10 via Thrill Jockey.
:Bare
Wires - Ready To Go:
There's always something garage pop-related around these
parts, but most of it isn't nearly as fun as this song.
So, consider it destined for your approval if this week has
burned you out and all you really want from today's post is
something quick and entertaining. Bare Wires is about
to hit the road, and then sometime after that they're
supposedly going to work on a full length.
:Dirty
Gold - Quiet Life:
Yesterday I mentioned that this San Diego-based trio had
just put out a digital split with SOTO-faves TV Girl, and
now I'm bringing news of their upcoming EP. Do
yourself a favor and throw on a good pair of headphones
before giving this well-layered pop track a listen.
The Aquarium Drunkard-ran Autumn Tone Records will release
the Roar EP on April 12.
:Times
New Viking - Ever Falling In Love:
This act hasn't exactly cut all the fuzz and noise from
their songs, but they have cleaned up a little and lowered
the volume to a less than crazy level. Now, as you'll
see in this track, all the pop sensibilities they have are
shining through, and I think they'll find themselves with
some new fans once Merge puts out Dancer Equired on
April 26.
