Today's Quick Mention:  Holy Crap!  So very much to do this week.  Social Network screening tonight, Matt Bearden's Punch at Cap City Comedy Club tomorrow, Pixies at Austin Music Hall on Wednesday, Fantastic Fest starts Thursday and Sharon Jones is playing La Zona Rosa on Friday.  Who's with me on ALL of it?

Five songs for you.  Enjoy.

:Reading Rainbow - Wasting Time:  And with this lady-lead peice of fuzzy pop, I'm officially on a mission to see how many consecutive weeks I can post at least one new track from the way trendy genre.  I think I can make it to at least 2012.  On another note, I like this band and I plan on picking up Prism Eyes when Hozac Records puts it out on November 23.

:Fujya And Miyagi - Sixteen Shades Of Black And Blue:  I don't believe I've ever actually liked an entire album from this group (who rock a name that says they're a duo), but I always dig their singles.  If you've previously had a good time with their slick bass lines and repeato lyrics, expect to like this, as it's just more of the same.  The oddly titled Ventriloquizzing is due in January on Yep Roc.

:The Fresh And Onlys - Waterfall:  This band always seems to have a new effort to support, so it doesn't surprise me to already see them with another full length (their third in two years ... and who knows how many EPs).  As usual, this is a great pop song with just the right amount of haze and warmth.  Play It Strange is set to hit store shelves on October 12 via In The Red.

:Gayngs - One More Try (George Michael Cover):  Novelty.  That's what immediately pops in my head whenever someone covers George Michael.  However, this is a surprisingly inspired take with Har Mar Superstar on vocals and it is from a band that calls themselves Gayngs.  So maybe multiple novelty-like items make a positive?  I have no idea.  This track isn't on it, but Relayted is currently available.

:Maserati - We Got The System To Fight The System:  I just mentioned last week a need for some more instrumental rock, and out of the sky fell a brand new single from this veteran act.  It's a little more intense than I was looking for in my request, but I certainly don't mind.  Temporary Residence LTD will release Pyramid Of The Sun on November 9.
