Today's Quick Mention: There's tons of
good stuff going on this weekend. Shonen Knife
are at Red 7 tonight and The Tallest Man On Earth
will be playing Antone's tomorrow. Both shows
will surely be great. Also, if you're not in
the mood for music, TXRD will wrap their 2010 season
tomorrow at the Austin Convention Center, where the
Cherry Bombs and the Hellcats are set to battle for
the Calvello Cup.
Time now for some tuneage. Enjoy.

Rose And The Outs - Candy:
I already mentioned Las Robertas this week, so it only makes
sense that this all-girl act (with an incredibly similar
sound) would be right behind their single with a new one of
their own. I really dig this song, and you will too as
long as you've yet to burn out on the fuzzy pop trend.
Slumberland will release the band's self titled debut next
Tuesday.
:The
Radio Dept - The New Improved Hypocrisy:
Considering that I really like these guys, I find most of
their music to be rather hit or miss. Probably because
I prefer them when they scale back and focus more on
atmosphere (as they do in this song) and stray away from the
overuse of effects. This is a politically charged
one-off, so don't expect to find it on an album somewhere.
:Warpaint
- Ashes To Ashes (David Bowie Cover):
Yeah, I know I just mentioned this act yesterday, but I'm
currently enamored with them and I just came across
this little gem. Double whammy! Anyhow, this is
a pretty slinky cover, so expect to be fully impressed.
We Were So Turned On: A Tribute To David Bowie is due
September 14 on Manimal Vinyl. It's currently
available now digitally.
:John
Vanderslice - I'll Never Live Up To You:
There aren't many that can craft enchanting pop music as
good as this guy does, so you shouldn't be surprised if you
end up attached to this track after just a listen or two.
Because JV is talented and charitable, his new EP is
currently available to the world for the lovely price of
free. Download Green Grow The Rushes
here.
:Mark
McGuire - Brain Storm (For Erin):
Where the hell has all the intricate /epic in scale
instrumental music been this year? There's normally a
handful of albums that I've completely worn out by now, but
I can't recall any releases. Oh well. This is a
neat song, and if I'm lucky the full length will be just as
good. Editions Mego will release Living With
Yourself on October 12.
