Today's Quick Mention:  My plan is to hang out on the couch and watch double digit football games all weekend, but if I were to get inspired to venture outside I'd totally hit up Club Deville tonight for Lower Dens and the Mohawk tomorrow for the Wild Frontier Fest.  See Showlist Austin for more details.

Let's bring this silly week to a close.  Enjoy.

:Sweet Bulbs - Kissing Clouds:  At least one post a week has a hazy/fuzzed out piece of lo-fi like this, but it's hard to tire of the sound ... especially when it's always so catchy.  If you like Best Coast (also known as the band that Marnie Stern hates) and such then you can expect to find this appealing.  Blackburn will release a self titled 12" in the coming months.

:Belle And Sebastian - Write About Love:  I love that this band is finally back.  Everyone tries to sound like them (and quite a few people actually pull it off), but there's nothing as good as the real deal.  Rough Trade will release Write About Love on October 11.  On another note, does anyone know the story behind Carey Mulligan supplying guest vocals for this track?

:Cloud Cult - Unexplainable Stories:  What happened to this group?  A few years back I would have said they were on their way to massive success, but these days I hardly ever come across anyone talking about them.  It's a bit weird.  Anyhow, I'm still interested in their work, and I think I will be as long as they keep crafting such headphone-worthy pop.  Earthology Records will release Light Chasers on September 17.

:The Tallest Man On Earth - Like The Wheel:  Kristian Matsson has put out one of the few folk albums that I've found tolerable in 2010, so word of new music from him was essentially guaranteed a mention here at SOTO.  He just has an incredible knack for creating material you want to hear.  The Sometimes The Blues Is Just A Passing Bird EP is currently available on iTunes.

:Kanye West - Devil In A New Dress:  News about Kanye West is nearly impossible to ignore, so you've probably heard that the last couple of Fridays have saw him putting out random tracks.  I thought the first effort, Monster, was borderline awful, but this song reminds me of pre-overly dramatic Kanye, and I'm really digging it.  Hopefully we'll get more of the same in the coming weeks.
