Time for your weekly notable news update!  Below you'll find a slew of sentences meant to provide a brief glimpse of what's been going on over the past week in movieland.  If something leaves you desperate for more info then my advice is to do a little extra research on one or all of the following fantastic sites:  Latino Review, Dark Horizons, Ain't It Cool News, CHUD and/or JoBlo.  Now, read on!

Movie News Rundown

Mel Gibson was in The Hangover 2, and now he's not.  Supposedly, his cameo will now be filled by the talented, but less controversial Liam Neeson.

In other Neeson news, there's a pretty cool trailer out now for Unknown.

Jack Black and writer/director Steve Pink (Hot Tub Time Machine) have acquired the rights to the book How To Survive A Robot Uprising.

Bryan Singer's take on the Jack And The Beanstalk story, Jack The Giant Killer, has been given the green light by New Line.  Aaron Johnson (Kick Ass) is being rumored as a possible choice for the lead role.

Rabbit Hole looks like a bundle of fun.  See the trailer.

Martin Freeman has officially been announced as Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit.

Stephen Norrginton (League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen) has decided to not direct the Crow remake.

Speaking of the Crow, Mark Wahlberg has reportedly been offered the lead role.

Hemingway's Garden Of Eden looks interesting.  See the trailer.

Ben Affleck is reportedly looking at directing and starring in the adaptation of Replay.  The book follows a man who dies and wakes up in his 18 year-old body.

Disney/Marvel have acquired the worldwide marketing and distribution rights for the Avengers and Iron Man 3 from Paramount.

INTENSE!  That's what I feel the trailer for Inhale is trying to say to me.

Angelina Jolie's currently untitled film has finally been given the proper permits by the Bosnian government.

Tea Leoni, Gabourey Sidibe and Michael Pena have joined the cast of Brett Ratner's Tower Heist.  The film already stars Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy.

There's a new trailer for Made In Dagenham.  I'm actually planning on seeing this at the Austin Film Festival next week.

Steven Speilberg will direct the adaptation of Robopocaylpse.  The book deals with humans trying to survive a robot uprising.

Colin Farrell, Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender are said to be in the running for the lead role in Len Wiseman's remake of Total Recall.

Cars 2 has a trailer now.  I think I care.

Roman Polanski is set to direct an adaptation of the play God Of Carnage, which follows a group of parents who get into an argument over their children.  John C. Reilly, Jodie Foster, Kate Winslet and Christopher Waltz have all joined the cast.

Marvel has indefinitely delayed its Runaways movie.

The Rite looks creepy.  Check out the trailer.

Brad Pitt's Plan B has acquired the rights to In With The Devil.  The movie is said to follow a football player turned drug dealer who must get a serial killer to confess to his crimes ... or he'll spend ten years in prison.

Johnny Depp is said to be trying rather hard to get Rob Marshal (Pirates Of The Caribbean 4) to direct his planned remake of The Thin Man.

M. Night Shyamalan will direct One Thousand AE.  No word yet on the plot, but Jaden Smith will star.

Anne Hathaway and James Franco are the latest names to be floated as possible choices for roles in the Aliens prequel.

Biutiful has a new trailer.  Could be a good one.

Sam Raimi will produce and might direct a remake of Day Of The Triffids.  The story deals with humans (most of who are now blind after a meteor shower) trying to start a new civilization in a world packed with an aggressive plant species known as Triffids.

Scream 4 looks silly, of course.  See the trailer.
