Today's Quick Mention: It would appear
that one of the twins in School Of Seven Bells has
decided to permanently
leave
the group. Bummer. On the bright side,
when I saw them this past Saturday I thought they
sounded cleaner without the extra layer of
vocals and with an actual drummer.
I Was A King has had some really nice songs in the
past, but I have to admit that I'm most excited for
their return because I know I'll be getting some
actual indie pop. No inordinate amount of fuzz
or noise - just quality stuff that will get lodged
in my head forever. Awesome. Old
Friends is set to be released on January 25 via
Sounds Familyre.

Was A King - Nightwalking:
While I do love this quick tune for giving me exactly what I
wanted (pure catchiness and a sugary sweet feel), I will say
the extra inclusion of the breakdown/transition near the
minute mark is an interesting treat. Each time I get
to the part I simultaneously want it to end and continue on
longer. Weird, I know, but something has to be said
for an indie pop band being confident enough to throw such a
random curve ball.
