Today's Quick Mention: Feel like having
a little fun tonight? Then head down to the
Mohawk for Jason Isbell, Langhorne Slim, Jesse
Sykes/Phil Wandscher and Mimicking Birds. Show
starts at 8pm. Tix may seem a little pricey at
$15, but you get to see four good bands!
That's a deal, if you ask me.
To have a Deerhoof release not put out by Kill Rock
Stars is a strange concept for me to grasp, but I
guess I'll have to get used to it since the band
recently announced that they've signed with the nice
folks over at Polyvinyl. Their debut for the
label is titled Deerhoof Vs Evil, and it's
expected to hit store shelves on January 25.
Enjoy.

- The Merry Barracks:
I suppose this is kind of a silly thing to point out when
you consider how good this band is at taking chances and
varying their sound from album to album, but this track
caught me off guard. It actually packs a punch and the
somewhat cutesy pop sound that was flashed on their last two
releases, Friend Opportunity and Offend Maggie,
seems to be gone. I hope this means the new LP will
bring the thunder.
