Today's Quick Mention: Well, I survived
another Austin City Limits Music Festival.
Can't say I saw anything overly brilliant while
there, but the random Mates Of State show at the
Mohawk on Saturday turned out to be quite fun.
Victory?
Time to break out the goods. Enjoy.

Wives - Blood Red Youth:
Not to say California Wives don't have their own thing going
on, but I've yet to get over how this track sounds exactly
like something the Pomegranates would do. It's crazy.
And a totally good thing, because the world can always use
more quality indie pop. The Affair EP is out
now, and there's also a Daytrotter session from the band
expected later this year.

To Sea - Is This The Last Time:
Considering that Alex Guy has been a touring musician for
Mirah and Laura Veirs, you'd kind of expect something a bit
more simplistic. But no, this is all over the damn
place. Frequent speed shifts, a plethora of sounds -
that's what you're in for, and due to her ability to somehow
make it all seem effortless, you'll dig it. Into
The Darkening Sky is available now. I need to
snatch it up.
:White
Sea - Mountaineer:
It would appear that M83s Morgan Kibby decided to start a
solo project and not bother telling me. No worries, I
suppose, since I have her new EP, but hearing this
sonically-lush electronic gem earlier in the year could have
lead to an exiting amount of anticipation for more.
Opportunity lost, MoKib! Because why the hell not, you
can get the This Frontier EP for free over at
Urban Outfitters.

Magic - About You:
I had gotten the impression that this act only made nosiy
pop with plenty of snyths and other electro-effects, so I
was a little surprised when I hit play and a 50s-esque pop
tune strolled out of my speakers. Guess I'll have to
check out a few extra tunes to see which style is more
frequent. This song isn't on anything official yet,
but you can download the previously released Hiding From
Our Time EP
here.

And The Tantrums - MoneyGrabber:
I realize I'm way late to the party on this one, but I just
recently heard this song elsewhere and couldn't for the life
of me figure out why I hadn't given it some love. If
you haven't already experienced this a zillion times you
should end up instantly enamored with its dancey retro
sound. Pickin' Up The Pieces is currently
available for you to purchase for all your friends.
