Today's Quick Mention: ACL isn't until
this weekend, but there's a slew of pre/after shows
that may affect the timing of content throughout the
week. We'll see. On a couple of other
programming related notes, I've been given a "Web
Excellency Award" from the
Theater Seat
Store, which is surprising and
cool, and I've started a Formspring account to use
as a forum to have some random discussions with you.
That's right, you. So jump over
here
or
here
and ask a question about anything.
Here's five tracks that jumped out at me over the
weekend. Enjoy.

- Tights In August:
When did these guys ready a new album? And why didn't
any of you tell me? Shame on the world. In any
case, this is a little less clever than Forty Five 45s
(one of my favorite songs back in 2008), but it's still a
great piece of indie pop. Where It's At Is Where You
Are released Life! Death! Prizes! today. If you
have it and want to send it over to me I'll love you
forever.
:The
Morning Benders - Outlaw Blues (Bob Dylan Cover):
I already re-confessed my love for this act on Friday, so
it's probably a bit ridiculous to be doing it again just a
few days later. Or not. Either way, I really
like this slinky cover they put together. It almost
doesn't sound like them. Subterranean Blues: A
Tribute To Bob Dylan's Bringing It All Back Home is due
tomorrow on Reimagine Music.
:Botany
- Feeling Today:
For a while I kept only listening to the first part of this
and writing it off as the usual sort of
electronically-tinged instrumental music that's so prevalent
these days. Then, because it makes sense to listen to
the whole song, I let it play through and noticed the airy
vocals that eventually kick in, and I was hooked. Grab
headphones. The Feeling Today EP is set to be
released on Western Vinyl towards the end of this month.
:Small
Black - Search Party:
I don't know what my deal is with Small Black. First
listens of new tracks always leave me feeling as thought
their sound is far too cluttered, and yet here I am writing
about them for a third time in 12 months. Shouldn't I
just instantly "get" their fuzzy electro-pop ways at this
point? New Chain is due October 26 via
Jagjaguwar, and the band will be in Austin three days after
to play Emo's Jr. with Class Actress.
:Scala
And Kolacny Brothers - Creep (Radiohead Cover):
You may be tired of seeing the trailer The Social Network,
but I doubt the cover of Creep that's featured in it
has worn out its welcome. Unless, of course, you've
been listening to it the last eight years (I haven't).
On The Rocks is obviously available now, but if you
need something new the Belgium act just put out an LP titled
Circles.
