Today's Quick Mention: There's a couple
of rather nice full album streams that have popped
up online. The new Marnie Stern can be heard
here,
and Corin Tucker's LP is
here.
Have fun.
The weekend has arrived, and that's almost as
awesome as the following five songs. Enjoy.
:Club
8 - Closer Now:
It's probably taken me longer than it should have, but I've
realized that there isn't another band on the planet that's
as blissful or joyous as Club 8. Expect to want to
smile and dance, as this pop gem really is one of the more
pleasant things you can feed your ears. Labrador will
put out the Closer Now 7" on November 23. You
should pick up a few copies.
:The
Morning Benders - Virgins (Live):
"Yes!" That's what I exclaimed in my head when I saw a
new track from this group floating around, and it's what I
will continue to do until I figure out a nifty way to grow
tired of the infinitely charming Big Echo.
Check out the live video for the song
here, and then join me in impatiently
waiting for an official recording to be released.
:Oh
Land - Sun Of A Gun:
It's been a weird week (especially if you live in Austin),
and that means a large helping of guilty pleasure is a must.
Dance to it, sing-a-long and, if you prefer, tell no one
that ever did such a thing. This Danish artist just
wrapped a tour with Mates Of State, and Epic Records will
release her self titled EP in a few weeks. I won't
tell anyone if you purchase it.
:School
Of Seven Bells - Heart Is Strange (Active Child Remix):
I don't feel as though any School Of Seven Bells track is
need of an alternate version, so me noting AC's remix as
pretty cool is definitely saying something. You'll
want headphones for this since it's rather atmospheric and
not as bombastic as the original. The two bands
involved in this will put out a split 7" on October 26 via
Lefse, and they'll play the Mohawk next Saturday.
:USS
Leland - Rebirth:
Here's an artist that I've been guilty of keeping to myself
for far too long. It's the usual sort of well crafted,
singer/songwriter kind of material you've heard a million
times over, but there's something very endearing and
interesting in knowing that all of the songs were written
about Leland Lewis' grandfather and his actions in WWII.
US War Veterans: Remembering Rutherford Garry is
currently available over at CD Baby.
