As the numbers
typically work when it comes to discovering new bands,
though, about 80% of all new finds will just not be very
good at all, half of that remaining will just sound the same
or too common to really rave about, and then a quarter of
whatever’s left has a Myspace that hasn’t been used for just
about as long as mine. Really at the end of it all, there’s
a whole lot of crap to sift through. A whole. Lot. Of crap.
But once you look at the tiny 8% of bands you’re left with,
you realize it’s all worth it.
I don’t exactly know if the UK just happens to have a high
musician per capita working to deceive me of this, but it’s
pretty easy to find a new AND good British band every day.
Their music model completely discredits the numbers I gave
earlier, but I find absolutely no reason to complain about
that. Here today, I’ve got Pete & The Pirates, a five-piece
pop-punk band from Reading. With a discography of tracks
that clock in at just around 3 minutes, Pete & the Pirates
play to a crowd that prefers to get their rock on quick and
dirty. This group comes off a lot like my productivity -
short bursts of frantic work with results you just can’t
argue with (just ask John). Angular, sharp guitar hooks and
a chaotic pace assures that you’ll be quick to get lost in
their tracks and fall into the ruckus. That’s what this band
plays really - ruckus rock. They’re upbeat and sure to
repeat. Have a great Thanksgiving!
