Today's Quick Mention: Believe it or
not ( ... I don't), 2010 is incredibly close to
being done, and that means it's time to reflect and
then ramble on and on about it. Hope you're
ready. We probably are. Here is SOTO's
schedule for the rest of the year.
:Air
Waves - Waters (Featuring Sharon Von Etten):
Despite digging Knockout, I can't say I've given this
local act much thought in the year or so that's passed since
I shared the song. This, however, is too infectious to
not make me impatient for more music, and I don't believe
I'll be letting Air Waves out of my sight anytime soon.
Dungeon Dots is due November 30 on Underwater
Peoples. I want it.
:Swim
Party - The Glory Of Economy:
This band couldn't have picked a better time to show up in
my inbox. I've had indie rock of yesteryear on the
brain after seeing Cap'n Jazz and Appleseed Cast at this
year's Fun Fun Fun Fest, and this fits in just fine with
those acts. The nicely titled There's Too Much Wood
In My Coffin is set to be unleashed on the world January
4.
:Ryan
Adams - Destroyers:
I've come to the realization that my relationship with Ryan
Adams is very similar to the one I have with the
Decemberists. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it
doesn't. Obviously, here I'm liking what he's crafted.
It's got a nice hook and I think the overall sound is just
too slick not to appreciate. A double album of
unreleased material titled Cardinals III/IV is due in
December on PAX.AM.
:Spectrals
- Chip A Tooth (Spoil A Smile):
Oddly enough, here's another Underwater Peoples artist with
a track that's best described as infectious. Granted,
this one definitely moves at a slower, more
relax-on-the-beach type of pace, but it's still going to get
lodged in your head for a good while. Extended Play
is currently available if you're will to give up a few
bucks.
:The
Good Natured - For The Widows In Paradise, For The
Fatherless In Ypsilanti (Sufjan Stevens Cover):
A couple of weeks back someone shot this cover over to me
and I instantly thought it made for an interesting listen.
Then for whatever reasons I totally forgot about it until
this weekend. Sorry. On the bright side, now you
have it, and I'm even linking to
video that the band made for the track.
Hooray!
