Today's Quick Mention:  As usual, there's plenty to see and hear this weekend.  I recommend The Black Angels and Black Mountain tonight at La Zona Rosa, Pomegranates and Oh No Oh My at the Mohawk tomorrow, and the Dresden Dolls and Girl In A Coma at La Zona Rosa on Sunday.

It's Friday.  Let's listen to music and blow off work.  Enjoy.

:The Forms - Steady Hand (Featuring Pattern Is Movement):  Before you hit play you should know that this is actually a reinterpretation of the song Bones.  Apparently, the guys behind the Forms randomly decided to redo a few of their own tracks and turn them into headphone-worthy jams like this.  Awesome.  Derealization is due February 15 on Threespheres/Ernest Jennings.

:California Wives - Purple:  Not sure if you remember, but earlier in the year I shared a nicely textured pop rock track from this band called Blood Red Youth.  This isn't all that different, but it does have me wondering why I haven't already sought out their recent release.  After all, anything in the vein of Pomegranates is always a good thing to have more of.  The Affair EP is available now.

:Best Coast And Wavves - Got Something For You:  Yesterday I mentioned Target's holiday compilation, and today I'm actually sharing a song off of it.  Fortunately, this sounds like all the other catchy little Best Coast tunes that have been everywhere this year and not anything like the noisy chaos that Wavves generally churns out.  Be sure to check out the rest of tracks that the retail giant collected.

:Pascal Pinon - New Beginning:  "Is life as good as it's going to get?"  Can't say I've ever had an inkling of what to expect from 16 year-old Icelandic twins, but I think from now on I'll go in hoping to be treated to something like this track, which has me conjuring up the Moldy Peaches.  Way to be, Jófrídur and Ásthildur!  Morr Music will release the band's self titled effort on December 3.

:Gang Of Four - Glass (Re-recorded):  I wasn't too familiar with the original version of this track, so out of curiosity I looked it up.  And?  Well, as Andy Gill said, it's "too busy" and "old fashioned."  This version, however, is not only simplified fun, but it sounds fresh.  I can't wait to hear the new album they've crafted.  Content is their first LP in over a decade and a half, and it's due January 25 on Yep Roc.
