Today's Quick Mention: Couple of good
shows early this week. Wolf Parade is at La
Zona Rosa tonight and Doomtree is at Red 7 tomorrow.
Also, before I forget, the talented Dana Falconberry
is currently "kickstarting" her next album. I
know everyone is doing that these days, but she's
one of the few I'd actually recommend giving your
money to. So, if you want to contribute, do
just that
here.
Monday means five new songs. Enjoy.

Fruits - Where The Stars Don't Shine:
While I'd probably give just about anything for the return
of Be Your Own Pet, I can at least get by with a solo
project from Jemina Pearl and this band, which features her
former bandmates Jonas Stein and John Eatherly. Don't
expect anything too catchy from this track, it's just
straight noise rock. The Where The Stars Don't
Shine 7" is available now on Turbo Time Records.
:Janelle
Monae - Shapes Of Things To Come:
I've yet to decide exactly what I think of Janelle.
This is a great little tune and parts of Anarchoid are
really neat, but some of her stuff sounds as though it was
meant solely for teenage girls. Maybe I'm just old at
27? This track was made to promote Levi's Shape
What's To Come website. You should check it out,
if only to get the She And Him
track that's there.
:Kanye
West - Chain Heavy (Featuring Talib Kweli And Consequence):
I kind of figured Kanye's G.O.O.D. Friday series
would die out fairly quick, but he's done a pretty great job
of keeping things going. Granted, I haven't liked
everything that's been put out, but some of the tracks, like
this Q-Tip-produced gem, have quickly reminded me why the
world tolerates his crazy antics. Kayne has a new
album titled My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, and
it's due November 22.
:Murder
Mystery - Problems:
Earlier this summer I shared a catchy piece of indie pop
from this band, and now they're back with ... a catchy piece
of indie pop. Hooray for consistency, right? I
think so, especially when it's this accessible.
There's info and other forms of media abound over at Murder
Mystery's site, so if you like what you hear then you should
jump over
there.
:Animal
Prufrock - 0 + 0 = 0:
I feel as though I should have long been in the know about
Animal Prufrock, but I wasn't aware of her existence until
this fantastically crafted track popped up in my inbox last
week. Oh well. It happens. The Ani
DeFranco-produced Congratulations; Thank You And I'm
Sorry came out last week on Righteous Babe Records.
Get it! By the way, if any of you have some Bitch And
Animal (her former band) stuff to send over, I'd love to
hear it.
