Today's Quick Mention:  Don't forget to head downtown tonight for a little pre-Fun Fun Fun Fest ... fun.  There's quite a few free shows, which can all be found at Showlist Austin.  I'll be floating back and forth between Club Deville and the Mohawk.  Can't wait to the Helio Sequence and Dana Falconberry.

The Decemberists have long been a band I've gone back and forth on.  There are times I can't get enough, and there are probably equal moments when all I really want to do is run away.  It's weird.  I know.  With all of that being said, I'm eager to see how the new LP will play out.  The King Is Dead is due out January 18 on Capitol Records.  Enjoy.

:The Decemberists - Down By The Water:  Colin Meloy previously mentioned that REM is who the new album is largely influenced by, and you can definitely hear that in this first single.  In some ways, I suppose the Decemberists always had a fair helping of semi-Americana pop in their sound, but it's definitely more at the forefront here.  I like it.  Does that mean I'll be able to love an entire full lengths worth of it?  We'll see.
