Time for your weekly notable news update!  Below you'll find a slew of sentences meant to provide a brief glimpse of what's been going on over the past week in movieland.  If something leaves you desperate for more info then my advice is to do a little extra research on one or all of the following fantastic sites:  Latino Review, Dark Horizons, Ain't It Cool News, CHUD and/or JoBlo.  Now, read on!

Movie News Rundown

Now that Megan Fox has quit (or been fired, depending on which story you believe) Transformers 3, expect to see newcomer Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, a Victoria's Secret model, as the love interest in the movie.

Gary Oldman will voice a character in Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom Of Doom.

James Franco will star in the Planet Of The Apes prequel Rise Of The Apes.  He'll also play the lead in Ricky Stinicky, which is about two friends who hire an actor to play their "friend" at party.

Drew Barrymore may star in and direct a re-imagining of The Wizard Of Oz.  It would be called Surrendering Dorothy.

You can see the alternate trailer for Predators here.  Still looks like a great time.

Wes Craven has added a variety of new faces to the cast for Scream 4.  Expect to see Hayden Panettiere, Lake Bell (Boston Legal), Ashley Greene (Twilight) and Rory Culkin (Twelve).

Whoa.  The Love Ranch trailer is some serious stuff.

Producer Akiva Goldsmith will make his directorial debut with Man And Wife.  The movie is said to be about an assassin who falls in love with the family he's supposed to kill.

Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me), Harry Knowles (Ain't It Cool News), Stan Lee and Joss Whedon are teaming up to a documentary on Comic Con.  It will be called Comic Con Episode 4: A Fan's Hope.

Megamind could be fun.  Here's the trailer.

Jason Richman (Black Hawk Down) has been hired to write a big screen adaptation of MacGyver.

Frank Marshal may direct an adaptation of Robert Ludlum's Covert One: The Hades Factor.  The book is said to follow a top secret agency that fights corruption in the highest levels of society.

Be on the look out for 3D/CG animated Looney Tunes shorts in front of upcoming kids movies from Warner Bros.

Two movies based on the life of the Russian mystic Rasputin are currently underway.  One is titled Raspoutine, and the other is Rasputin: The Healer.

Robert Rodriguez has acquired the rights to Frank Frazetta's (RIP) 1983 animated movie Fire And Ice.  No word yet on when he would actually do the remake.

Phil Alden Robinson (Sneakers) is penning the script for JJ Abrams' heist movie.  The movie is currently untitled, but the plot is said to revolve around those who robbed the Antwerp Diamond Center in Belgium in 2003.

Unique Features is trying to purchase the rights to the PS3 game Heavy Rain.

Well, I've certainly seen worse looking romantic comedies.  The trailer for Going The Distance is out.

Tim Burton is looking at adapting the manga Mai, The Psychic Girl.  The story follows a psychic girl who is being chased by the government.

Jeremy Irons, Tony Shalhoub and Kirsten Scott Thomas have joined the cast of Tangier.  The film, which stars Emile Hirsch, is about a young soldier who goes AWOL and gets involved in something in shouldn't.

Ellen Page will star in Freeheld.  The "based on a true story" movie will follow two lesbians in New York who fight to secure pension benefits after one of them is diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Cameron Crowe has officially signed on to direct the long-gestating We Bought A Zoo.  Crowe is also in talks with Terrance Howard to have him play the lead role in his Marvin Gaye biopic.

Ewan McGregor has joined the cast of Terry Gilliam's The Man Who Killed Don Quixote.

Not sure what to expect from Rio.  The first trailer really doesn't show much.

A Tall Man will star Jessica Biel as a mom out for revenge on the man who kidnapped her daughter.
