Today's Quick Mention: My friends over at Austin Sound have put together their annual compilation of local awesomeness.  You have to check it out.  Or else you shouldn't refer to yourself as a human.

Since we got SOTO back up and running this weekend with a slew of film content and a stacked podcast (by the way, you should at least download it to hear the fantastic new single from the Black Keys), it seemed like a good idea to keep the momentum going with a fiver-songer.  Enjoy.

:Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti - Round And Round:  Whenever I see Ariel Pink on something I automatically assume it's probably going to be really weird.  However, in this case, it's actually very accessible, and I wouldn't at all be surprised if it ended up being one of the better retro pop songs that comes out of 2010.  Hope this is the kind of stuff we can always expect now.  Look for the Round And Round single on April 26 via 4AD.

:The Splinters - Dark Shades:  This trio of ladies were one of the ten bands that I really wanted to see at SXSW, but things just didn't work out.  Fortunately, as if to make amends, the week after the catchy garage rock enthusiasts stormed Austin they premiered this new track over at Stereogum.  It's quickly become a favorite of mine.  Kick is currently available on Double Negative Records.  I (and you) really need to pick it up.

:Arms - Heat And Hot Water:  I kind of gave up on trying to love Kids Aflame, so I wasn't overly excited when I received an email last week about the band and the free EP they had just digitally released.  But, I gave it a listen anyway, and I actually ended up coming away impressed.  Guess now I'll have to go back and revisit the band's debut to see if maybe I was just missing the point or something.

:The Fresh And Onlys - Diamond In The Dark:  Why haven't I covered this band before?  They've had seven official releases over the last couple of years, and I haven't mentioned a single one of them.  Shame on me.  In any case, this is great rock music, especially if you like it with a fuzzy old school feel.  The August In My Mind EP is currently available, as is a slew of other good stuff.

:Delorean - Stay Close:  I didn't think Delorean had much of a chance to ever top last year's Seasun single, which made my year-end list and still gets regular listens, but this track actually manages to rival it.  Who knew they'd be able to create another piece of such infinitely joyous music?  Subiza will be released by True Panther in the too far away month of June.
