For the sake of not having to write the same intro a million different ways throughout the rest of time, just know that this column avoids the overly long and sometimes dull process of full film reviews and instead opts to break things down based on what I thought going in, what happened while I was there and what I learned at the end of it all.  Hope that's OK.

SXSW Breakdown - MacGruber

The Impression:

MacGruber, a very tired and not always funny SNL skit, is made into a full length feature film for no apparent reason other than boredom.  Well, either that or it's been just long enough for people to forget about The Ladies Man.

The Reality:

As you are hopefully wishing for, this movie is roughly 100x more ridiculous than anything that could ever hope to be done on SNL.  For some of you, that will mean a good hour and half of hard, gut-busting laughter.  For the rest of you, you'll probably still struggle to not smirk at all the immature and stupid jokes, as the whole presentation is just as hilarious as it gets.  I'd tell you more, but you already know what to expect from the cast of veterans.  All you should be curious about is how funny it is, and ... again ... it's h i l a r i o u s.  See it.  Then petition for an immediate sequel.

The Lesson:

SNL can be funny when on the big screen.  It just doesn't happen very often.
