Today's Quick Mention: If you've yet to
click over to the film section then do so now!
I've seen six films since SXSW started on Friday,
and all of them have breakdowns for you to feast on.
Better yet, every movie was good, so be sure to
scribble down a few reminders to see them whenever
they each get a wide release.
Today I have the 10 artists that I will be trying my
very hardest to see at SXSW. Dan will post up
his list tomorrow. John Michael is off to
Paris next week, so he won't be recommending
anything. SXSW Music starts Wednesday.
Holy crap. Here's hoping we're all ready.
Enjoy.

- Mouthful Of Diamonds:
I've been absolutely loving Eyelid Movies since I got
my hands on back on January, and if there's any artist at
all of SXSW that I want to see as many times as possible,
it's this one. Unless, of course, they're terrible.
But even then there's always the possibility I'll keep
giving them another chance.

Mirror - He Was Worse Than The Needle He Gave You:
Similar to Phantogram, I've been really loving this band's
most recent release (Machines That Listen) and I'm
anxious to hear how the songs play out live. Honestly,
I have the feeling they're going to be of the select few
that come out of SXSW with even more buzz.
:Dum
Dum Girls - Jail La La:
Dee Dee used to be (or perhaps still is) dynamic as the
singer/drummer of Grand Ole Party when it came to
performing, so I know I'll at least be in for a carefree and
fun time when this all-lady act takes the stage. Plus,
with every new track I like them a little more, so I'd like
to see what else they have.

Andronicus - A More Perfect Union:
Despite only picking up the recently released The Monitor
yesterday and not having the chance to see if it's as good
as I want it to be, I'll still be making a huge effort to
these guys put on a show. This song is just too good
to miss out on hearing in a live setting.
:Mynabirds
- Numbers Don't Lie:
I'll be seeing Laura Burhenn no matter what, but there is a
part of me that wonders if she'll be able to pull off the
warm, endearing sound that fills What We Lose In The Fire
We Gain In The Flood. SXSW can tend to wreck
artists like this. Guess we'll see. I'm
certainly pulling for her.
:The
Black Angels - Doves:
It's kind of weird to list a local act here, but these guys
have been MIA in Austin for quite awhile, and now that
they've announced a new album I think it's as good a time as
any to reacquaint myself with them. Hope they've
recharged the batteries a bit.

Elinor Dougall - Fallen Over:
Since the Pipettes have decided to destroy themselves with
an attempt at really awful 70s glam, I'm looking at Rose to
justify her leaving with a set full of glorious pop (with
polka dots or not). Seriously though, I think whatever
she has planned will be a blast, and that's why she's listed
here.

Blood - Floating Vibes:
It seems as though the entire world has gone on and on about
this band for the last six months or so, and I'm honestly
just ready to see if they're really worth all the blabber.
Yes, the album is good, but what about them live?
:Pomegranates
- Beachcomber:
I wasn't planning on making much of an effort to see these
guys (even though I really like them), but then last week
they signed to Afternoon Records and announced a third LP.
Now, I'm super hopeful that I'll be able to catch a few new
tunes.
:The
Splinters - Mysterious:
I wanted to include at least one shot in the dark, and this
is it. Why? Because a lot of their songs sound
the same and I'm not sure if I'll even be able to tell them
apart live. Still, I get the impression they're really
fun on stage, so maybe it won't matter.
